James E. Golden
chief strategy officer
Jim is chief strategy officer at Haupt Law. A Dallas native, Jim earned his bachelor’s degree in political science with high honors from Southern Methodist University before earning a Juris Doctorate from the same institution. Jim clerked for U.S. District Judge Patrick Higginbotham and worked as in-house counsel for Merchants State Bank in Dallas.
Jim was admitted to the State Bar of Texas, the Oklahoma Bar Association, the United States Tax Court, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth and Tenth Circuits and all lower courts in those circuits. Jim practiced law in Oklahoma from 1981 to 2006, both independently and in affiliation with several firms. Jim has not practiced law since 2006.
Jim represented a diverse clientele during his career, including a large multinational asset-based lender on claims in five states against borrowers for breach of contract and conversion of trust funds; a local multinational manufacturer in defense of breach of loan covenants actions; numerous bank officers and directors against breach of fiduciary duties claims brought in actions by the FDIC; insurance companies in coverage disputes with their insureds and claims involving bad faith; companies defending employment discrimination claims brought by the EEOC and former employees; large regional and local businesses in contractual disputes; the Oklahoma state newspaper against environmental claims brought by the EPA receiver for a superfund site; national manufacturers against products liability claims for defective oilfield equipment, and a large national insurer against numerous surety bond liability claims brought in Oklahoma.
As a former attorney, Jim brings a tremendous energy to Haupt Law as it searches for new means of expanding the reach of the legal profession, both by mentoring young attorneys and in maintaining close ties to developments in the legal profession.
